Pure hypoxia removes oxygen but lets cells briefly coast on anaerobic respiration. Ischaemia does much worse: it strips oxygen, cuts off glucose and fatty acids, AND leaves metabolic waste (CO₂, lactate) to accumulate. That combination is why ischaemic tissue dies faster and more completely than tissue that is merely oxygen-starved from lung or blood causes.
