Margin's highlight failure traced to MarkdownStyler adding a terminal newline absent from the corresponding plain-text page slice. The rendered selection range was therefore offset from the range used to write the highlight. A regression test now reproduces the broken state with rendered=58, plain=57, gap=1. When two representations of the same content diverge by even one character, every range-based operation silently breaks.
